Air Corps To Perform Fly By
« on: March 07, 2007, 04:09:20 pm »
The Air Corps will be performing a FlyBy in the Afternoon over Eyre Square on Thursday March 15th and also the Irish Army will be pushing an Artillery Gun up and down shop street from 10AM to 4PM along with the 4 Western Bgde Army Band performing an Open Air Concert in Eyre Square in an effort to raise money for the Galway Hospice and the John Paul Centre the Galway Independent is reporting. 'thumbsup'

They didnt give a time for the FlyBy or the Type of Aircraft to perform the Flyby im guessing it will be the PC9M's?

Hi guys, any more news on the fly by?
It's rare enough I get to see any Air Corps aircraft these days and I don't want to miss it seeing as i'm in Galway!

The Air Corps will also feature in the Paddy's Day parade in Limerick as part of the biggest military parade in the country on Saturday.

Limerick is to host the biggest military parade in the country on St Patrick's Day with a major fly-past by the Air Corps.

Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea has confirmed that he has organised a spectacular military parade for Limerick city this St Patrick's Day.

More than 230 troops will be marching in the Limerick parade and a huge array of modern equipment will be on display including six MOWAG armoured personnel carriers that are used by the Defence Forces in overseas missions.

The Air Corps fly-past will include four Pilatus PC 9s plus their newest helicopter, weather permitting.

*Mumbles something about being stuck in Dublin*

Actually, I wonder if there'll be an en masse takeoff? Pretty close to the Don up here.

Are they stealing your thunder Badger? In fairness, the 172s have been providing fly bys at various smaller parades for years, without any complaints. Funny how not too many people look for heli formations. The 'Green Barrows' still make me smile and the noise is incredible. As for the station keeping in such an aircraft, I still don't know how they do it! Keep it up.

"plus their newest helicopter" .... I really hate how the press reports. It always sounds like the DF have only ONE of everything !!!

Fouga,

I think you're misquoting me there, from what I heard it was never actually organised for it to be cancelled.

That said, it might still happen, the FTS is a busy place so the pilots I spoke with might not be involved in a flypast if there is one so if you're in town there's no harm in keeping one eye on the sky.

In fairness though your best chance of seeing a flypast this week is in Limerick on Saturday, 4 PC-9's & 1 AW139, I think there is also a PC-9 flypast in Letterkenny & Tallaght on the same day.

Frank.

Clog, there's nothing stopping you looking up!

Updated info on PC-9 flypasts:

Limerick
Killaloe (overhead @ 14.50)
New Ross
Tallaght

AW139 flypast:

Limerick

I've got no definite info on any other flypasts. All flypasts are weather dependent of course and the forecast doesn't look too healthy.

Frank.
