Now that we are an active EU Country shouldn't we have IAC bases abroad - perhaps with UN Peace Keeping Missions?

Ha ha ha ha ha.
For a minute there i thought you were serious.

We have to get a decent base in this country before we can think of setting up shop elsewhere.
And dont forget, in order to have a base you need aircraft to put in it....

Ok Guys,

Before this topic decends into a slagging match I'm locking it out, I'm not trying to censor anyone but we all know the direction that this topic will take so I'm nipping it in the bud while we're all still friends. '<img'>

Turkey & Bucks,
Why not it is about time we broke out of the Irish inferiority complex! Why shouldn't there be IAC bases outside Ireland - perhaps with the larger UN Peace Keeping missions. Would it not have been good to have had an IAC detachment with UNIFIL or in East Timor?  With all our new aircraft to come on stream it shouldn't be too difficult. Also if we are going to be part of the European Rapid Reaction Force, it would be nice to have base somewhere like Italy or Germany.  After all that other small nation, New Zealand, had a detachment of D/H Vampires stationed in Cyprus of all places in the 1960s!

Dont get me wrong, i would love nothing more than see the tri colour be flown at an IAC base abroad, but its NOT going to happen, especially with the goverment we have at the moment. '<img'>

This has to be the most stupid topic I have ever read on an Irish Military site.
What aircraft could we send abroad ? There aren't enough for home based duties (and unlikely ever to be).

And we only have ONE base here for God's sake !

FiannaFail back to his old rubbish again.

If this is the type of posts we can expect on this board, I won't be sticking around.
