I have just seen one of the 3 new London Met Police EC145's, lovely looking machine. It seems that it is a very different machine to the 135.

Yes, bigger payload, longer endurence. Don't be surprised to see that model as the PSNI's second heli instead of a 135.

Hi Guys,
The EC145 is nothing new. It is certainly not from the EC135 stable or even close to its genre of design and maintenance.
The EC145 is in fact pretty much a BK117 with an EC135 cockpit. Its drive train is old in concept and design and passes some of the more modren requirements for certification by way of BK117 grandfather rights. While many would say it is reliable, I would call it old. If the 117 was such a good aircraft why did the EC145 not keep its orginal designator, BKK117C2 (I think). It is an old aircraft with a thin veneer of modern design.
Ps Its got a bumpier ride then an F1 car on a Kildare bog road!
