Yep! Looking forward to the day when I see it flying again! fantastic aircraft at an airshow!
How did you get an interest in the irish Air Corps?

I am interested in aviation, mostly military, in general.  As I am now living here in Ireland and a freind (Fouga) told me about this site.  I now am quite a regular visitor, shame it tends to be a bit on the slow side at times.  Its great for the pictures, especially in the galleries.

Sealion,

Mellows Barracks is also known as Renmore Barracks as Renmore is the part of the city it is located in.

Frank.

Does'nt this news article just sum up the problems with the Air Corps!  Again not the fault of the Air Corps themselves but the government.  It just goes to prove that there is a lack of aircraft and relying on others to provide the aircraft when on peace keeping duties.  Whats the point of being able to arm the AW139's or the PC9's if they are not going to be used?.

What ballistics protection does the 139 offer? How does it cope with sand ingestion?

What are the chances of giving them a basic counter measures suite between now and January?

It's more than just the government "not using" the assets.

It's also the fact that these assets are not right for the job.

Why on earth would we send PC-9's to Chad when the French have Mirage F-1's there already?

Aside from that - if there are any balls in this government, now is the ideal time to make an emergency purchase of Helicopter assets, something capable of undertaking desert operations and carrying enough troops and equipment. Bypass the tender bullshit so that whatever is purchased might stand a chance of reaching the operating theatre while there are still Irish troops there.

Maybe a few examples of the rugged and reliable Mil-17 would be a good starting point!

Now is not the time to purchase helicopter assets. 3 Years ago was the time to do that and its to late to cry over spilt milk. Accept the role of the Air Corps to be home service and let the UN deal with overseas troop transport.
