if i remember correctly the beech had problems with its wing main spars both of which had to be replaced, also due to the many heavy landings buy students the aft bulkhead was knackered also. a turbine failure is rare but not unheard of, i wathed a GV loss one on take off the other day, quite spectacular.
to the techs out there don't let anybody ever tell you off you guys do good work

On Weds afternoon the beech had to shut down an engine on a training flight and come in on one!! It was later discovered that something went wrong on the inside of the engine causing bits and pieces to give up the ghost!!
Just to say that this type of incident is unforseable and is simply bad luck, so dont go off and give out about "techies this" and "techies that". I'd thought I'd just mention it here before some twat who probably works down camp and knows F@#k all about a/c goes and tells the Daily Star or sumtin and the whole "Techies are shite" thing starts again!!!

Perhaps the "master plan" is to replace the Cessna's with something like 3 x PBN Defender's and use them for twin-engined training !?

Although, if/when that would actually happen is anyone's guess ??

I just read about this incident in the Indo, bottom of page 2 I think.

I wonder will they replace the engine seeing as the Learjet is coming on stream soon?

A fixed wing pilot I knew in his cadet form told me that the King air was knackered, that was at least two years ago.
This is why I kept plugging the Saab 340 as a VIP transport, its a twin turbo for training but has the range and capacity of a regional airliner, and is already in VIP service with Sweden among others.

yes imshi ,you are right on the money with the saab 340 ,excellent both for training purposes and mats . there are lots of them around and for relatively short money

"What will trainee pilots use when we sell the MATS plane ?"

"Ah sure, let them train on the big planes - sure fishery protection isn't that important anyway !"

Good point Ishmi,

I had forgotten about the training role the Beech had with all the talk recently of it being replaced by the Learjet.

I suppose it will be kept on then as a training aircraft?  Anyone out there know anything different?
