you'll be waiting for the good news Marine! well until March at least when we get the delivery of the first two PC-9M's.
BTW,does anybody know exactly what will happen to the marchetti's after the PC-9M's come into service?
Surely you couldn't use the pilatus as an elementary or even basic trainer,I mean it cruises at almost twice the speed of the Marchetti!(300mph I believe)

The sad thing is that the governement is composed of people who are unwilling to spend money but also often of peole who are  willing to make reckless decisions for short term gain, i.e send out an ill equippde battalion into a high profile situationso they can play at being Tony Blair...worse still the public given their largely fictional understanding of the DF will see this sort of potential tragedy as a reason to do away with the DF rather than re-equp it...for example see the Tramore tragedy.

Dont worry lads, things are looking up - 8 PC-9Ms. s-60, 2 new Govt Jets......all at a time when all Government Services are been curtailed. And then the fighter jets to be announced following the sale of Gormonston!!!!

Wants the panic about the age of our great aircraft? Do any of you know how old the B-52s of the USAF are?? And they are perhaps their most effective aircraft!!

Its getting better all the time!!!

more cuts  .....IRELAND'S ability to take part in the new European Rapid Reaction Force has been weakened by a series of cutbacks in Government spending, including a plan to equip the Army with a fleet of new armoured vehicles.

In the latest budget cuts by the Department of Defence, because of the worsening financial situation, two major equipment programmes have been 'deferred' for several years, while others have been cancelled or reduced.

The deferment or cancellation include:

* Deferring a plan to buy up to 65 light-armoured vehicles at a cost of up to €20m

* Deferring a replacement programme for thousands of 40-year-old FN pistols - modern Sig P-226 weapons would have been bought at a cost of €630 each

* Cutting a second order for Mowag armoured personnel carriers from 40 to 25, saving €19m

* Cancelling a plan for five large helicopters for search-and-rescue and troop transport at a cost of up to €100m "due to budgetary constraints".

Defence Minister Michael Smith announced the investment programmes for light-armoured vehicles (LAVs) and pistol replacement in 2001 but yesterday the Department of Defence admitted they had been "deferred" for budgetary reasons.

A spokesman was unable to say when they would be purchased. Officially, the Department line is that no equipment has been promised to the Rapid Reaction Force which is planned to be operational this year, simply a commitment of a light infantry battalion of 750 soldiers and a 40-strong Ranger platoon.

its always the way. smith, mcreevy and the boys know any future supposed improvments to the defence forces ,  can be cancelled out at any time , with the least chance of any
repercussions from joe public  . so what else is new?

But we really needed two VIP reception centres and a bug pole in the middle of O'Connel street, maybe they wouldn't have such shortages if they tried taxing wealthy people? It might just work

taxx the wealthy , why that would amount to imposing      a tax upon themselves and bertie and their flag wavers
like "ff " , would never countenance an action , which could hurt themselves so much .
