Irish Aircorps or Irish Airforce?

Very simple-Would you like the Aircorps to turn into an Airforce, or just keep it the way it is.
I personally would change the Aircorps into an Airforce.

(Irish Coast Guard = Garda Costa na hEireann).

i usually know wheteher something in Gaeilge sounds right or not but that is a tricky one alright.its to do with the tuiseal gineadach or something like that!!

I presume Yes equals Air Force? If so yes and its neame will be ACE(Aer Cosantoir naÉireann).

I believe the White Paper on Defence suggested the stupid name of "Military Air Service" for the AC. It sounds more like a private company on contract to a government.

Better to retain Air Corps than that !
After all the name "Air Corps" has been in use since 1922.

The title air corps seems to suit better in my opinion,airforce would be misleading! '>

Military air service is totally unacceptable, it sounds really crap, and does give the impression of a back-street helicopter repair service.
Irish Air Force is the way to go, with suitable equipment, of course.
 
Why this concern with what it is in Irish?
The newspapers will spell it Irish Aer Force anyway. After so many years they still can't get the present name right.


BTW the name did change, it was originally Irish Army Air Corps.

I think FF is hinting at a comment made by a previous OC Air Corps, who when asked this question (by Flight International, Air Force Monthly or one of the other quality British mags), at the time of the introduction of the "Blues", said he thought a more appropriate name, for a small force, would be "Irish Air Defence Force". My limited knowledge of Gailge, makes me think, a translation of FF's "ACE" would be "Air Defence Ireland" or "Air Defender Ireland" close enough to allow the new "IADF" to be called FF's "ACE", thereby making the AC's members aces!

Don't think it was ever Irish Army Air Corps.  Open to correction on it though.
Operations at Baldonnell have been serviced by the Royal Flying Corps.  Irish Air Service and the Irish Air Corps.  Which more or less had its name about a year after coming into existence.  Taking over from the air service.  As far as I know it was never the Irish Army Air Corps.

LOL though, love the way the papers are forever saying Aer Corps. Just about sums everything up. '>
