Hey Turkey, I couldn't agree with you more! How come FF doesn't mind aerial photo's of USAF and RAF bases but complains bitterly of military secrecy with the smallest bit of info about the Air Corps? I'm surprised she hasn't complained about the satellite photo of the 'Don!

I have come across what seems to be a satellite photo of Casement Aerodrome.

Go to http://www.scramble.nl/ie.htm
then click on 'Order of Battle' - then 'satellite picture' (below the marchetti photo)

It looks like an Il-76.

Elsewhere on the field there is a 727 and perhaps the wrecks of some more - but the photo does not seem to show the whole airport, as photos which have appeared in magazines depict a gaggle of 737s, 727s, a 747SP and Il-76 all pushed close together and clearly unairworthyat present.

I've come across this report about Casement on a German website.

What do you guys make of it ?
(I haven't read all of it yet - seems to include many safety recomendations)

read the report, seems the US a/c misread there plate and tracked the 345 radial instead of the 270 which put them on a track to cross dublins R10 ILS, the americans messed up but the simulated engine failure high wind and actual IFR conditions are supporting factors in the mishap.
simple solution to that problem is no single engine ops in actual instrument conditions or if it must be done it should be done under positive radar control at all time.
the report give a proper 3W analysis my thoughs are slightly short and sweet. its a good read though.

The US captains Assumption that the Procedures were the same as last time was stupid. If IEDW has control pf approaches to RWY10 at DUB then the Capt. should have checked it. Also the Person Briefing him should have gone over it anyway and not take his word for it that he was "familair" with them.

For aerial photos of many UK airfields you can look on this site - elsewhere on the site he also does a section on disused fields.

On a slightly different topic, here is a link to a satellite photo of Baghdad Airport as of April last - it takes a while to download but the detail is very impressive.

Is that a Russian Transport AC that is used by Iraqi Airways on the Ramp at Baghdad?
