Hmmm.......it's hard to know what the GOC was getting at alright  '<img'>

If we got Blackhawks wouldn't we still need trainer-helis ?
I suspect that the A3's will be retained for this, for a few years - but we will have to replace them sooner rather than later.

Minimum trainer helis required ?  2-3 ?
Bearing in mind that the 1 x Gazelle and 7 x A3 are both currently available for training ops.

SF260'S Should be kept and all the Heli's if they do order some new Helicopters then they could re-arrange the Corp to include Army Air Crop and NS. And still have enough some equipment to be a small Air Force. Silver I have no idea why they did not buy the Spartans or Scorpions, but I do know they made a massive mistake. We only have 14 scorpions, not enough for our commitment to the ERF or the UN or our own security. That A109 while been very loud, but boy it can shift.
Reading in the Independent today they said 8 New helicopters plus a possible 2 Medium lift jobs.

IAS, I can confirm it is an A109 that flies over me most days, it was also confirmed to me today by a pilot of a Jet Ranger that knows the craft and he confirmed this particular Helicopter is rather noisey. S61 went over head recently while the sound was different the noise levels were not. The S61, was coming into land wheres the A109 usually guns it past the house.

The Hearld mentioned the Blackhawk as a possible replacement and said that it would give the corps unprecedented capabilities(or words to that effect anyway).
A figure of 5-8 was mentioned.

The A109 was selected (Actually confiscated) for the SAS for its speed and its main use may actually be as a bus for picking up personell in an emergency, this much I do know its not quiet and most of the civilian A109s here are long models, whcih still incidentally look nothing like an S-76.

H-60s are too long and heavy for Eithne, and very small for what you pay in TT terms, the Sea King types in the tender weren't just picked for their SAR capabilities, larger Helis are also better for us green wearing types.

Interesting stuff indeed !
Blackhawks would be a big step forward alright !!

Was that heli white and blue, clan ?
The more I think about it, I reckon the one I saw was a Sikorsky S76.
(Looks very similar to the 109 except it has two rear protruding 'legs' which house the wheels)

In my humble opinion it seems to me that the decision to hand over SAR to the Irish Coast Guard may be a blessing in disguise.  We need to focus more on or military role especially now that the ICG has been set up around the country. Roll on our role within the ERF!!

i told you, blackhawks all the way. with these a/c the corps can ferry the rock ape's around all day, we can have gunships just like the 160th SOG, night vison flying, ohh the options are endless. i know 4 heli pilots who be very happy to see those bird arrive.
panted dark green with the green white and orange how great would that be.

Silver, if you live in Galway, it would be the same Helicopter if not then it could be the bell222b that I have seen at a Hotel in Galway manys a time: Bell 222 N510W
The A109 is dark blue underneath going to a light shade of blue half way up the doors. The S61 just flew low over head and it is quieter then the A109.
But saying that I also do remember a camoflage A109 at the salthill airshow two years ago and that was pretty quite.

Silver, no it is two shades of Blue, the one you have seen is maybe the Bell 430, there is an American reg model in blue and white flying all over the country.
The Blackhawks would be perfect, painted in camo, like the two that visit Salthill every year.

Blackhawks are likely, as the govt owe Sikorksky big time for the balls up with the S-92.  What with them announcing the choice of S-92 to the world and what not.

But, it's only going to be one type.  So, here's guessing.  Most likely 8 utilities inititally.  With two medium lifts on the shopping list.  Bit like back in 1981. '[<img'>
