They may be Gardai but arent they still operated by IAC Pilots?

The S61n Flies the Celtic Boss and has an AC Reg so i placed it there. ':p'

Fouga,
It has to be the Dauphin as they introduced us to night time heli flying in a meaningful way and as I always say if they are good enough for Bay Watch they are certainly good enough for us in the IAC.

The Puma, I love and I still think that Romanian 330s Pumas should be considered as troop transport options.
The AIII should be considered for continued service in the LOH/ flying jeep role.

The Dauphin does look very slick .........  '<img'>

Seriously, the Alouette wins hands down !
It has given 40+ years of sevice to the Corps - even for that reason alone it deserves to win !!!

If the Corps don't retain at least one airworthy example, to form an 'Historic Flight', they are mad !

Must go with J K and I Y on this one, although never had the pleasure to fly Air Corps, I do remember the heavy snow in Dublin ('82?) and as I was leaving my front door on the Saturday, the green Puma came over at speed and for some reason did a 180, it looked fantastic with everything else (ground, roof tops, trees etc.) so white.

Add to that, the fact it was the only real military chopper the Corps operated and it must get my vote, which for some reason I can't register, (though the AIIIs were the cause of many great hours, spent by a young teenager, after taking his life in his hand on the Naas dual carraigeway on a bike, with binoculars, sitting in the cold outside of the Don - never had the guts to ask for a tour '[<img'> ).

Definately the AIII, Seeing 197 in July in Galway newly overhauled was a pleasure, The Heli was in Perfect Nick and looks like it just landed from Aerospatiale for the First time.

Its the Puma for me. It should never have got rid of so quickly.

The Puma we had was not a military heli, it was a civil version painted green while it was on lease here.

As usual ff is talkin thru' his/her/it's exhaust pipe, I can remember lying in bed in the early '70's listening to the rattle of an A111 rotorhead as it headed out, on yet another SAR mission.

A111, best thing the Irish government, any Irish government, ever bought!!!

CH, I cant say that any Air Corps Helicopter was military. The most armament I ever saw was :::::::: well, I wont go into it here, but you know as well as me. The only military aspect of any of them was how many soldiers you could carry for the occasional drop into C****s  I****d.

Nope, for me it's got to be the Puma! I had over 600 hrs. flying  in Allouette 3s, but the reason the Puma does it for me is: returning from Marseille in an Allouette we could see 242 circling over Strumble Head, we joined in formation and headed back across the Irish sea to Wexford, we were only about 20' apart and the Allouette was bucking and rocking but the Puma was rock solid, as soon as we reached the coast we put down to about 50' and the Puma just left us for dead! watching it flow into and out of the bays ahead was pure poetry! I think the pilot was the HOD!
Mind you Paul Fry could handle the Gazelle! He was a natural pilot, not like some of the Herberts I flew with. funnily enough I never flew with FF!!!!
