hi gang,

thats interesting bailer!, although i dont agree in that sort of thing, i see it as being disrespectful to the aircraft and to all the ppl who have worked on it to maintain it! im sure the two lads got a great buzz out of it but i do wonder did they realise how lucky/ honoured and bordering humble they should have been while sitting in the AC....

You are correct sealion.
Former AC Dove, No 201, was bought in 1988 (in the UK) by an Australian gentleman and formed the basis of his aviation business which became known as - wait for it - Dove Air !

There are a couple of pages about this aircraft, with it's new owner, in the AC book 'A View From The Tower' - including a letter he wrote to the GOC in 1989 (looking for some info on it and offering a free flight over Sydney harbour to any AC personnel who might visit Oz) along with a photo of it in it's new livery.

Well P.Diddy. One of them is now an Army cadet and the Photo has pride of place in their Wardrobe in the Military college. I'll see if I can get a copy of some of the Photo's that don't have peoples faces in them.

silver your not going to believe this but i was talking to this chap from NZ and he was asking me how i knew so much the sf.260 and i told him i used to fly them in the aer corps. to my surprise he tells me he's got one of our cadets in NZ. so to answer the question in his own words ' i went on hol's and when i got back someone ask me why i sold me cadet to the irish air force, and i said I HAD NOT'
so apperently it was all a big misunderstanding.
he was approached to sell but the buyer could meet the asking price

It would be great to see an 'Historic Flight Squadron' set up by the Air Corps.

Chipmunk 168 was airworthy in recent years and could be used as the first aircraft of such a Sqdn. Other aircraft could be added as they are retired, i.e. Alouette, Cessna etc.

Former Air Corps Avro Cadet C7, which has been restored to flying condition in New Zealand by owner Stan Smith.
It carries it's original AC colours.

It was rumoured that this aircraft was due to be sold/loaned/donated to the Air Corps last June.

This aircraft would really 'kick-start' a Historic Flight Sqdn !

aer corps historic flight
the aer corps deserves a historic flight,
1. i would be a great boost to morale
2. a historic flight in the aer corps has great potential considering the a/c they used to fly

Hi Guys,

I think a properly organised Irish Air Corps Historic Flight would be great.

It's nice to see modern jets and turboprops at air shows but it would be a nice touch to have vintage propellor aircraft flying around.

Saying that though, I would give anything to see a Fouga or two flying around again!

Regards,

Frank.

Hi gang,

I was up in Gormo a few months ago and there is (what i think is a chipmonk) in the hangar, sorry to all you aircraft lovers out there, im new at the Aircraft ID stuff.. i was talking with one of the remaining IAC ppl up there and he said that the AC had wanted the aircraft to be taken apart and brought to the Don and reasembled there!, the aircraft was S at the time.... he said that if they took it apart it probubly would never go together again properly... he suggested it be flown back! he got shot down(Excuse the pun).....

Pity i thought!

Yeah, I too heard that there were plans to dismantle Chipmunk 168 and bring it to Bal'.
Apparently, there are no pilots rated to fly a 'tail dragger' but an NCO has a private licence to fly one.

However, due to the snobbery (sorry, "ranks") in the AC, only an officer would be allowed to fly it    ''

That guy is right p.diddy, if the Chipmunk is dismantled it will probably never be returned to airworthy spec  '<img'>

This is a photo Frank took of Chipmunk 168 in formation with the Cessna's at Air Spectacular 1993.

Wouldn't it be great to see her flying again !
