We may have another casualty at RIAT

Its been reported that The Airbus A400M suffered engine problems and as a result grounded the A400M ahead of the upcoming Paris Airshow and has been temporary suspended from all non essential flying including displays

Just anounced RAF will be sending an A330 tanker and using the occasion to confer the name "Voyager"
on the type!

RIAT has now been extended by ½ hour to accommodate the flying display  :buttrock:

"Organisers of the Royal International Air Tattoo are guaranteeing visitors will get even more for their money next month – by extending the flying display to eight hours.

The airshow, which takes place on July 16-17, was due to start its flying display at 10.30am but it will now start half-an-hour earlier to accommodate the large number of aircraft from around the world who want to perform.

A record nine aerobatic display teams will be taking to the skies above RAF Fairford along with fast jets, giant transporters, classic warbirds and military helicopters.

Chief Executive Tim Prince said: "Bringing together the flying display is like completing a massive jigsaw. There are so many factors you need to take into consideration to ensure the day runs smoothly.

"When we sat down and looked at all the aircraft taking part we realised we needed to extend the length of the flying programme. That so many air forces and civilian operators wish to display at the Air Tattoo is a great reflection on the reputation the airshow has around the world. UK plc should be very proud."

This summer's Air Tattoo will be marking its 40th anniversary and hosting a gathering of specially-decorated 'Tiger' aircraft from the NATO Tiger Association. 'Tiger' aircraft come from NATO squadrons that have a Tiger or Big Cat in their emblem and their association marks its 50th anniversary in 2011. The 'operational' spotlight STAR 11 will focus on aircraft and equipment involved in the roles of Strike and Reconnaissance." :applause:

I wasn’t expecting any IAC participation to any overseas Airshows in light of our current belt tightening situation, and because the great work the  :ireland: IAC did in response to the wild fires earlier this year, I presumed that this  may have use up a lot of precious operational  resources, so great news indeed  :ireland: :applause: :airforce_grin:

Can’t wait now just under 3 weeks to go
So let's pray for good weather during the month of July

The IAC will be represented at the Austrian Air Show this weekend in Zeltweg, Austria

Here is the information from the website

"PILATUS PC-9

The Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus has specialized in the production of turboprop-driven training planes like the PC-9, currently used in 17 Air Forces for the training of future jet pilots. The two-seater excels by its good-natured flight behavior (especially appreciated by beginners) and its sufficient power for challenging flight maneuvers. The Irish Air Corps and the Slovenian as well as the Croation Air Force will each send one PC-9M to AIRPOWER11 at Zeltweg. And also the Croatian aerobatics display team Krila Oluje (Wings of Storm) perform their show using six Pilatus PC-9s."

There are reports from Facebook that a FULLY LOADED Eurofighter Typhoon from BAE  will display at RIAT 

I won't get to excited until I see it on official sites but has to be a brilliant last minute update .....


On a slightly worrying note....


There are reports that the Vulcan XH-558 has been dogged with engine troubles  let's hope she can make it to RIAT

Not sure what the story is with the IAC CASA ? it's only been confirmed for about a week or so and now cancelled ??  :banghead: Maybe they'll replace it with something else, would be nice to see a PC9 there for a change, instead of the usual AW139, as good as they are.

It's seems as if The IAC have completely pulled out of RIAT

I  think the PC9s will be elsewhere according to an earlier post

I reckon any IAC aircraft type would be welcome at this late stage

Unless the original slot has been kept open for the CASA it Would be pretty hard to reorganise everything. Unfortunately it's not just a case of turning up and parking.

On another note, there is an ex-IAC Chipmunk going, still in it's Irish paintscheme  :buttrock:
