Air Corps CASA conducts Search and Rescue top cover mission
« on: January 05, 2012, 06:29:32 pm »
Hi Lads just seen this on the Irish air corps Facebook page so though share it with everyone.

Statement - 05 January, 2012 12.40pm

Air Corps CASA conducts Search and Rescue top cover mission

An Air Corps CASA provided Search and Rescue (SAR) top cover for the medical evacuation of an injured fisherman from a Spanish fishing vessel approx 100 miles off the South coast of Castletownbere, Cork.

The Air Corps CASA diverted from its daily maritime patrol in response to a request from the Coast Guard to provide assistance for the winching operation.

The CASA arrived on scene at 11.30am and  provided a communications relay between the fishing vessel and ‘Rescue 115’.

The casualty is currently en route to Cork on board the Coastguard helicopter.

The CASA will now revert to its Maritime patrol before returning to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel.

Just a note from the Sligo based Coast Guard Heli Rescue 118 (Crewed by mostly Ex. Donners). Conducted a SAR mission from a Russian Factory vessel 130NM off Eagle Island, Mayo tonight. Great job by Charlie 253 in doing Top Cover for us...great sense of security and reassurance for the SAR Heli crew. Successfully completed the lift and routed to Sligo Airport with casualty. Charlie 253 continued to maintain cover for us until we regained radio comms with Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre. A big well done and and thanks from the crew of Rescue 118 to the Maritime Patrol Aircraft crews...thanks a bundle :applause:
