Just out of curiosity ... did they use "Irish" or "AW" callsigns during the operation?

Hi Shamrock they were under the call sign of (Alpha whiskey).

I heard that they were using ''Wolf Section'' ....

'Alpha Whiskey' is used for a singleton and 'Wolf Section' for a formation with Wolf 1/2/3 etc being the callsigns of individual aircraft in that formation.
'Wolf' derives from AW-139 'Wolfhound', the official name of the type in service .
'Irish' is used when an Air Corps aircraft travels abroad so the jury will be out on that one   

So if they were a pair it would be Wolf unless of course you heard Medevac 112 which was also busy that night.

I didnt hear them myself but a couple of friends from NI told me they heard them using the ''Wolf'' callsign  whille they were up there.....
