Frank I would hope that the Air Corps has at least tightened
up the security around Baldonnel for such events of foreign air craft flying. I think in general security should be the same at all times. I certainly agree on what you are stating!!!! '<img'>

Details of military aircraft movements at Irish airports are already freely available on another Irish aviation web site. This week alone there have been reports of 3 C-130s at Shannon, a Portuguese Air Force bizjet at Dublin and the US Navy C-130 at Baldonnel - I don't see what security threat is posed by these reports - or similar reports posted to this site.

Hi Snapper,

I've no problem with details being announced after the aircraft departs, it's people giving details in advance of the aircraft's arrival and also giving details of the location and duration of the stay that I have a problem with.

I have been told by people in the Air Corps that this practice is frowned upon, and besides, as the owner of the website I am legally responsible for the contents of this website & the message board.

The last thing I want is someone burying the hatchet in the nose of a US Hercules at Baldonnel and saying he or she got the info from this website!

Surely you can see it from my point of view?

i agree with frank, we all should monitor the site and if we see any post mentioning the arrival or departure of aircraft we should PM frank or silver so they can delete the post.

I agree!! Ive stopped posting anything to do with A/C that are currently at the Don!! Its OK in retrospect but "IF" something ever happened , god forbid, it will make life a lot harder for everyone ane shut this and other sites down for good!!!!

I have been very concerned for some time about these postings - I written about them in the past and got abused in the process.  International terrorists with not exclude Ireland if it suits them. We must be very careful what information is released on this site!

Its not just web sites. There is a mailing list that you can join that will give you almost every arrival and dept for irish airports including the don. Joining the mailing list is easy and no checking is done.

Ya good idea Frank, i can tel you that the security in the Don is getting tighter and tighter, but as always where there is a will there is a way!, but as much as possible all aircraft are very well protected against such attacks!

While I can't control other lists and I not to pushed about them anyway, my big concern is what happens on this website. What is said on the message board can potentially force the closure of the entire website.

The Irish Spotters mailing list is tame in comparison to some UK based lists and a quick search on Google will show sites for Holland, Belgium and Germany with comprehensive lists of movements at all the main operational military bases in Europe.

If a serious terrorist decides to target an aircraft or airfield there are far more detailed sites for them to view than this one.  Paranoia regarding security seems to have replaced common sense - does anyone really believe that Ireland is less safe from terrorism now compared to 20 years ago when war was raging just across the border?
