This evening's Herald carries a front page story and screaming headline about a recent USMC C-130 visitor (sorry, "warplane") to Baldonnel and highlights its alleged flying of a Jolly Roger flag during the visit.  Worth a read as an example of how to generate a front page story of dubious accuracy out of very little!

To All,

I'm not a Marine, but I think it's standard practice for the USMC Hercs to fly their squadron standard as they taxi out.  It's just what Marines do.  In this case I'm pretty sure the Jolly Rodger is the squadron standard, and that the boys had no idea that it would cause a fuss.  Sounds like the Herald was looking for a story on a slow news day.

Thanks for the update herc i think it's what we were all thinking it also go's to show that there are crusties around the Don on a Reg basis god they get to see more AC than we ever will...

The plane in question was a KC-130K which anybody with any aircraft knowledge will know it was a tanker for air to air re-fuelling. It was a fine bus to look at up close.

To All,

Yep, that was the Marines.  As for me, I've lived all over the US and a few places in Europe.  And I must say, I spent a few great weekends in Baldonnel in USAF C-12's (Lear 35s) before I came to the Herc.  The Irish Air Corps hospitality was top-notch and I plan on coming back as much as possible...  Thanks for some fine visits.

But Guinness, the weather here is so changable, in the last 24 hours we had monsoon, winter and now summer, The Netherlands is worse than Ireland!

Hercdude is probably somewhere hot, like California or maybe even Iraq............
