is it from day one that they start roaring and shouting at you or do they slowly introduce you to military life? and would all the cadets be switched on and know what to expect when they come up their first?

Isnt it a week in Bal first and then you go to the Curragh?

Ye that's right. I wonder what happens that week? Would they bring you up in the training aircraft to give you a taste?

it' s week in bal getting all you army gear ect. my class got a hop in the marchetti's the week we were there. then its aff to the currage. once there you get assigned to a section and your army training begins, the is very little shouting only push up and starjumps, lots of starjumps.

Hows it going,

Im new to the board and I am considering applying for an IAC cadetship next time round. Ive read the above posts and would like to commend Alpha Foxtrot for his willingness to help people, it is a rare thing to find somebody so patient.

I have a few questions which somebody might be able to help me with:
How important is it to be a member of the RDF?

Alpha, from your time in the IAC, how many cadets came from the FCA if you can remember?

I believe I read that you get 6% added to your interview score for RDF membership, and a further 6% for speaking Irish (scrap that last idea, I wasnt that good at it in school, let alone now, 5 years later. As long as you could answer all question with Ta or Nil, then Id be sorted!'> ) To get that 6%, do you have to be signed up for a minimum amount of time?

Hi Doc,

Welcome to the board! Ye you do get 6% extra if your in the RDF. You have to have been in since the 1st of January of the year previous to the competition. So if you're goin for it next year you have to have been in since the 1st of January this year. The irish test isn't too bad at all if you have to go for that instead. And you also get 6% if you have a 3rd level degree. But you can only get a max of 6% extra, ie only one of the above.

2 of us were FCA (me included) and three others were already in the air corps, the rest were of the street. of my whole class army and navy included, i would say about 30 to 35 percent were FCA.

That's me covered then, I have a BA degree from UCC.

it truly is..
im doing first aid courses with the civil defence and want to include it at the interview next year to impress.. but am afraid they wont take too kindly to it as im not suppost to be involved with them due to commitments with the reserves.
what if they mobilised on the same day
any ideas whether to include it or not...

Include the first aid courses, im sure they wont eat you if you're in the reserves and civil defence!
