8-ship helecopter formation
« on: August 11, 2003, 07:10:48 pm »
Just wondering had anyone else spotted the spectacle of 8 air corps helecopters in formation today? it consisted of 3 Dauphins and either 4 or 5 Allouettes, or possibly a Gazelle.

Unfortunately Frank I hadnt a camera to hand, but it was quite spectacular sight, very noisey too '<img'>

P.Doff, was it for a passing out ceremony or where there just alot of bored pilots who wanted to take advantage of the weather? '<img'>

Cheers..

Don't worry Frank. I have plenty of pics I can give you! Do I ever let you down? The 10 ship (4 Dauphins, 5 AIII and GASU EC-135) was to commemorate 40 years of helicopter Operations in the Irish Air Corps.

hi guys ive not been active on the site for a bit, but here goes! i was on the 4th aircraft in the 8 ship formation which took us from bal to overhead the curragh and back, 244 (i think ) was on the ground with only 12 - 15 min left on one of its engines so it waited untill the formation came back from the curragh pass untill it joined us for the photo call. the aircraft was shadowed by ec135 and the deffender all the way recording and taking pics, we then went up to blessington for the final few pics and returned to bal.

One incident was when we were turning to do the fast break of 29 -11, we were sent towards weston which was highly active and caused some concerns! also while we were travelling over blessington a voice came over the freq and called a change in formation (IT was not the formation leader) could have been bad! so video footage is availible and photo's galore. ciao lads '<img'>  '<img'>

It's a real pity that we find out about these things AFTER the event !?!

Do the AC not know at this stage that there are many folks who would like to see such formations in action (and get some pics, if even from nearby roadsides) ?

Would be good PR for them if nothing else.
Not even any pics in the papers or on the news ??!

Advance notice on military.ie wouldn't go amiss !
