Hey Flyboy, I had about 600 hrs as crewman in Allouette 3s and Gazelles and a bit on Puma. Also about 20 hrs in the back seat of Fouga Magisters, couple of hrs in the Beech King Air 200, HS125, 747, 111, Tridents, 737, Merecure (French!). Lately I've got a couple of hours in Grob Tutors and Vikings. Oh and a Yak 50! I'm not a pilot and have no intention of trying! I'm a technician and I enjoy getting stuck into maintenance tasks, helicopters particulary but there's no money in them so while I've got a mortgage to pay I'll stick with 747s.

John K, I just fly for fun, I always wanted to fly so I got a PPL(A), as I said in my earlier post I don't fly as much now as I too have a mortgage etc. However, I still have a great interest in aviation and in particular military aviation. I've never flown in a helicopter as I was afraid I would catch the bug and want to do a conversion to a PPL(H), now that is a surefire way to burn money !!! But your hours in heli's sound good. Where do you ''play with" 747's ?

Hi Alpha
I'm new to this site. I was drawn by your interesting comments regarding aerobatics.
From a costings point of view do you know why the difference in price between Ireland and the US is so vast. In your opinion is the standard of instruction compromised as a result.
I'd love to get involved in AEROs But i'm a bit out of shape do you need to be really fit to put up with the G-Force.
Any advice you could give me would be very much appreciated.

I'm on the nightshift for British Airways at Heathrow. That avatar you've got, Flyboy, has got my initials in the l/h undercarraige bay! When I was an apprentice six of us under the leadership of Gerry McC**n (the Rasher!) put it together from a pile of bits still in RAF colours, then we painted it in Air Corps colours and towed it down to the front of the Apprentice Hostel, from where it was stolen!!!! and stuck in front of the Officers mess, then it became a nomad!

And a great job you all did John. It is in very good shape in the museum in No 4 hangar being well looked after by Mick Whelan and Joe O'Hanlon.

its cheaper in the us because the fuel is a lot cheaper and the insurance is also a lot cheaper. the standard of instruction does not suffer. but as always it will vary from school to school. as far as physical fitness goes, the fitter you are the better your body is at dealing with g loads.

Actually that reminds me, I did a tandem Paraglide in Olu Deniz in Turkey. I would recommend it to anyone going there on holiday. You jump off a 6,000 ft cliff and take about 20-30 minutes to paraglide down to the beach. It cost about £15-£20. Great fun.

hi all iam new on the board. Regarding the topic in question, i have flown the Tomahawk, Rallye, Tampico, and the C150. I got over up to 30hrs in them. Also have a few hrs in the R22 helicopter. Thanks!
