In the fitness test they stop you when you get to 20 sit ups and 20 press ups. They mark your time for the run though.

A current cadet told me that they were told to do as many as they could in a minute when he went through selection last year. Has this now changed to doing just twenty?

Does anybody know just how strict they are on the fitness assessment ? i understand the run is a pass or fail test, and you need to do 20 sit-ups and press-ups but after that is everything just an assessment? like the BMI test etc. are they failable or just noted ??

Also one other question, no doubt the press-ups and sit-ups will be in the gym, but where do they do the run - is it on a treadmill in the gym or is there a course set out somewhere ?

A PDF officer involved in the process has told me all parts of the fitness test are pass or fail, if you don't meet the targets you're cut. He also said that there is no advantage in exceeding the targets set out in the fitness test, the guy in charge simply puts 'pass' or 'fail' on his sheet.

My last fitness test (a couple of years ago) was done out at the polo grounds in the Phoenix Park, you ran outside on the pitch.
D'oh!

I think the fitness tests are running throughout all of next week and the interviews are commencing about 3 weeks after that. Best of luck to all involved.

we had to do as many as we could in the minute. The PTI's wrote down our scores..I was in the RDF but I left about a year ago because it clashed with work. Have you done your fitness test??
