New Minister for Defence, who will it be?
« on: August 25, 2004, 09:39:17 am »
Hi Guys,

As we are all led to believe by the media, the current Minister for Defence, Michael Smith, will be out of a job when the upcoming cabinet shuffle comes off.

My questions to you are:

Who will replace him?  Who would you like to replace him?

I really wouldn't have a clue to be honest with you, I'm not a big fan of politics so I have no idea who is potentially the next Minister for Defence.

Regards,

Frank.

As funny as that may seem, he has managed to get a huge amount of funding for his area. New roads, better facilities etc etc. When he wants something he usually gets it so who knows, he might think the Air Corps need MUH`s and(fingers crossed) a fleet of Gripens '<img'> .
Being serious, we might be stuck with Smith because he doesn`t look like he`ll go without a fight. The problem is that most TD`s don`t want to be Defence Minister because so little emphasis is put on defence in this country.

expect to see the IAC move, lock stock & barrel, to Farranfore then, along with a new fleet of Mi-17's, he likes value for money.

He isnt a farmer. He is a publican. He also runs a successful town..yes he runs the town, owning the Pub,petrol station,supermarket....and his sons run the local road building company....

Perhaps we will all be surprised and get our first FEMALE Defence Minister !

Sile De Valera perhaps ? (or is she still a member of the cabinet?)

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm in New Zealand and a little out of touch with politics back home.

N.B. I'm not recommending her, just a thought.
