Im thinking of going up for a day just to see if i can see anything.

Your best bet is to ring the people at the Don and ask. If your still eligible for the cadetships, apprentices etc then you can ring up, say your thinking of joining and ask for a tour. This isn`t exactly moral but sacrifices have to be made in the name of planespotting '<img'>

Up my the Poitin still on the naas road, but that is pretty far away. Most aircraft overfly there though.

As for perimeter watching, because of the flat nature of the terrain, its hard to get a good view, and the road from the industrial estate isnt a safe place to watch the ramp from.

Make the call. The worst thing thatll happen is they will say no.

The City West bridge over the Naas dualer gives a good overview of the field and is close to the approach of 29. You can also see most of 23 and the ramp from there, but you might get the odd heavy earth moving machine in the way...

I wrote to the Air Corps requesting a visit a few years ago and they were happy to oblige..Gave us a great tour and let us watch the aircraft for most of the day..it's well worth your while to do the same..

Hi all
How hard is it for you to understand,Fouga? Knock at the gate and they'll let you in.You can take all the regs down, all you want, jot down all the numbers you like, instead of risking death on the busiest road in the country.Write, phone or ask at the gate. You'll get a good welcome and get to nose around a real live air-base.
regards
GttC

GTTC is quite correct. Ask! write a letter requesting a visit , organise a group and I guarantee the same courtesy and hospitality that I have experienced from the  the friendliest Air Corps that I have been privileged to receive for the "last number of years that I care to recall " Do not stand outside the perimeter on the road it causes unwanted security problems.
