What aircraft would you like to see in AC service?

go on pick one of the above it can ve any variant of those mentioned. personally id pick the A-10 for it's ground attack capability and it's ability to fight it's way into the attack area and fight it's way back out again and since it's systems are multi fool proof id pick it. i read somewhere that one got shot at and lost it's entire port wing but was still ablt to fly back home and make a safe landing. so what would you like to see

Obviously of course this is 'in an ideal world' poll as the only one of those planes I can see the govt. ever commiting to might be the Alpha Jet which I believe is a trainer. I can see them buying that and then trumpeting on about how 'we have equipped Ireland with a modern jet force' if certain conditions were to apply with regard to security considerations etc.

To expand upon the poll, how realistic would it be to introduce fast jets to the AC in a short time scale? Would the infrastructure of the Corp's need to be upgraded significantly to allow for maintenance, training etc? How long would such changes (if needed) take as introducing jet fighters to the AC would seem to be a large project to undertake.

Errr..
i have not voted in the poll, as there are no[few] suitable aircrafts in it.
A-10, ground attack aircraft[if we need anything , it's a MRCA].
Alpha Jet, out of date and of little use anyway.
HAwk, see above.
Tornado, see above.
Harrier, tooooooo OTT, nice but.[feckin noisy thou']
F-16, now u are talkin, but $29 million each, good luck.
F-18, failed F-16, do u ever read anything about aircrafts?
Mirage, do u not think 4 killed by french dross is enough?'<img'>
Sokhoi/Mig, some sh1t, different name.
There are only, IMHO, 2 choices, in the event that the government come to their senses and order FJ's for this country, while we still have a country:
[1] The Jaguar International.
[2] the F/A/T-50.
these are sensible, possable choices, if we took choice one there would be the added benfit of investing in 3rd world industries.........
....but unless the government gets it's sh1t wired, we are only dreaming.........
Anyway, there are a lot more helicopters wanted and Tactical trannys, and utility aircrafts wanted before we even sniff FJ's
Ireland, no jets, no future!

If the AC were to be equipped with jets *cough - Gripens* at short notice, I suspect that we would see private maintenance crews put in place to service/maintain such jets - in the short term.

And with the hangars in Bal already almost 'overcrowed' - we would need new hangars too !

Turkey,
Why the Jag ?

Well said Sealion. This is like the question... "What would you buy if you won the lottery".

Ireland is not France or the UK! We have limited requirements and even more limited funds, notwithstanding our high GDP per capita, however as we only have a population of 4 million or so we must be realistic and the chances of being able to afford Block 60s/Super Hornets/Rafales/Eurofighters/F-22s or the like are very slim. The Jaguar, like F-5Es, F-16As (MLU) or maybe Grippen As would provide a realistic, cheap solution to our limited needs.

Since neither the French airforce or the RAF operate the Jaguar International, I do not see how they can be in a position to call them outdated and old. ':p'
What you are thinking about is the Original Sepecat Jaguar which dates back to the '70's and is shortly due for withdrawl.
This is what i was thinkin of:

Ireland, no jets, no future!
