Is there a realistic possibility that we could see additional AC CASA CN-235MPA's in the near future ?

E.g. - even one to replace the Learjet when it is sold ?

Or was it always the plan to  only have two MPA aircraft in operation ?

Now that we are losing most of our EU funding I doubt that the Government will fork out 20million plus for a new MP Casa. The Learjet sale won`t generate nearly enough money for a new Casa. The most we can hope for is that Mr. O`Dea is a great minister or that Fine Gael come to power(without Labour or Greens) in the next election. Sorry to be pessimistic about it but considering that 120 million has/will be spent on new aircraft, I think the AC will have to wait a few years for their next contracts.

Realpolitik aside Silver thats possibly the most sensible suggestion you've ever made, an expanded CASA fleet with a pair of CN-235 TTs or C-295s would be a major leap forward for the DF as a whole, giving the IAC a reasonably low cost expeditionary role.

I still say that the Govt should have jumped on the band wagon the time Aerlingus were purchasing the new A320's as they could have got a deal of Casa ( A member of the Airbus Industries group of companies) for a new 235 or 295 and also got on board with maybe 1or  2 A400m's, as if Luxemburg can purchase the aircraft, I do not see why the hell not Ireland could.

I honestly think that nothing major will be purchased over the next 2 year life time of this Govt. And unfortunately there is no way that Fine Gael can get into Govt on there own, unless at least labor Will be required to form the next Govt.

However, if Ireland is to join the new 'EU battle groups' (which is currently under consideration by Mr. O Dea) we will need a much expanded transport capability withing the AC (and the Navy !).

Would a single standard CN235 be a good idea to replace the Lear?(more useful too), Similar to 250,bog standard. A useful Multi  engine trainer,available for ministerial transport ,air ambulance and a certain level of Military transport.

I dont think its asking for much..
