Air Corps & Naval Service ops?

Besides the CASA fisheries protection patrols, does the AC carry out any other ops with the Naval Service ?

Target towing with the Cessna's ?

Actually, does anyboy know if the PC-9's are equipped for target towing ?

I KNOW THAT THE CESSNAS USED TO TOW THE DROGUE FOR THE NAVY IN OR AROUND 10- 15 MILES OFFSHORE.IM NOT SURE IF THEY STILL CARRY ON WITH THIS AS THEY'RE ALL BASED IN BALDONNEL NOW.ID IMAGINE THEY WOULD IF REQUESTED.

The PC-9's can possably, in theory, be equipped to tow targets, there are pods available for target work, the RAF have mounted them on Canberras for years, as to if there is such a plan for our little flying club[  '<img'>  ] I have no idea.
I am sure if the cessana tows a drogue target then the PC-9 can too, but there does not appear to be a plan to replace the Cessana at the moment.

Hey Turkey, long time no see !  '<img'>

The reason I mentioned the PC-9's is that surely they would be a better 'training aid' for Naval Service gunnery practice than the slow moving Cessna's ?

And by the way Turkey, less of the "little flying club" thank you very much !   '<img'>

QUITE A LOT OF TRAINER AIRCRAFT HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO TOW TARGETS.HAWKER HUNTERS USED TO BE EQUIPPED TO TOW TARGETS IN THE EARLY/ MID 70'S FOR AIR TO AIR AND ANTI AIRCRAFT.THEY USED TO HAVE A MECHANISM THAT ALLOWED THEM TO DROP THE DROGUE BEFORE LANDING.HOWEVER,THEY WERE REPLACED WITH PILOTLESS TARGETS (RPV's) WHEN A FEW HUNTERS RETURNED WITH BULLET HOLES IN THEM !!  THE CZECH L-39V CAN ALSO TOW,SO ID IMAGINE THE PC-9 HAS A SYSTEM AVAILABLE TO IT..

AFAIK the Fougas & Marchetti's took part in the odd dry run at the NS during exercises.

I think I read somewhere that the krauts use either PC-7/9 or Tucanos to tow targets.

The navy used to check their laser sites on the cessnas ,probably the same for the fouga and marchetti dry runs with them. I heard that the gerry's have a target towing version of the Pilatus , the pc-9b,carrying winches under the wings for the target.  On the subject, theres plenty of loud banging coming from gormo range at the mo.No aircraft, though, cloud base seems to be quite low..

I notice that the Swiss PC-9's can be also fitted with -

"a jammer for electronic counter measures to avoid anti-aircraft defence and other combat aircraft"

Would this be an option for our PC-9's ?

Re Target Towing -
Surely a PC-9 would provide a better 'target' when towing a drogue than a Cessna - for both Army artillery and NS gunnery practice ?

What would we want them for? When would the PC-9's be going up against either scenario?

Errr, when will the Swiss be going up against either scenario??
no disrespect intended, BTW.
It would probally be a good idea to examine such a provision for the PC-9's as we have a whole army to train including air-defence forces.
'Just a thought..............
