Airshows!

Just as a matter of interest who is going where this year? Obviously Salthill is on the books and EIAB. Anybody else going anywhere in Ireland? would members be interested in meeting seeing as we post all the time ! Might be a great chance to say hi and basically have a face to face discussion ha ha ! Come on FF i know ya wanna!

Whats your opinion on this and where are you going this year?

I'm going to the following airshows, others may follow:

Planes of Fame, Chino, USA
Salthill (Bit of a no brainer that one!)
Flying Legends, Duxford, UK
RIAT, Fairford, UK
Bray, Co. Wicklow

Hope to get to one or two more during the season, holidays & cash permitting.

Can't make the other Irish air shows as they are all on during the two weeks I'm on holidays in the US.

I'm sorry to say you'll not be seeing an Air Spectacular in Ireland for a while.  Cue some hat eating, but here goes anyway.

From what I hear the last one was a financial disaster, a lot of people were owed a lot of money afterwards and there was a bad taste left in a lot of mouths.

The worst thing about it all is the Air Corps was left in a very bad light, even though Baldonnel was actually rented or leased out to a civvie operation and was effectively a private property for the weekend.

Don't get me wrong here, I'd love for there to be another Air Spectacular, but from what I hear that's the way it is.

Pitty, because the air spectaculars of 87, 88, 89, 93 and 2000 were really good, but what are the chances of family days returning were they used to invite foreign airforces to baldonnel, ie the odd Tornado, or f-16. Maybe co-op exercises, or photo shoots will be done in the future.  '>

(Just remembering the day a flight of Viggens flew very low over my house.....sigh..... '> )

Yeah the air spectaculars were great,i think it was '89 i remember walking on the beach close to my home when i heard the drone of something different approaching (i was used to hearing ACOS cessnas) Two A-10's at low level along the sea front....a nice change from the cessnas,marchettis and fougas!!

The Tall Ships Race is not on until July.

Any-one interested to come to the Open days of the RNLAF?

The dates are 17 and 18th of June .
the airshow is at Gilze-Rijen AFB in the south of the country.

Tall Ships is 6th to 9th July. I askd the organisers and they said a request has been made for a flypast during the opening ceremony. This will take place at 4pm on 6th July. I assume the flypast will be around this time. I will post more info closer to the time.
