217 is sitting on a transporter in the square in Bal' at the moment, and, before you ask, I did not have my camera, and also the NCO on the gate said 'No photos!' Work it out for yourself.
Ireland, no jets, no future!

I see that an Austrian C-130 is scheduled to land at EIDW today to collect 217, you never know if they are also giving something for the IAC museum, Well you can always hope.

Also heard the 217 is on a low loader at BAL, is this correct?

I understood the airframe life had expired on all the fougas. I'm no techie, but what would it take to restore an aircraft so described to flyable condition?

Why couldn't the C130 land at Bal ... surely the runway is plenty long even for a laden C130?

The Austrian roundel is one of the more unusual ones with its white triangle on a red disc.

It was probably easier to land the herc at Dublin with regards to room. There are still repairs going on around the bal ramp plus there was a  U.S, VC-9 on the ramp for a couple of days earlier this week!!

The three Austrian Hercs are ex-RAF C-130Ks - ones that were not "stretched" as many RAF ones were in the early 1980s.

Hi all
With regard to "expired" life on an airframe, I'd say that the Fougas were grounded as they came up for a major inspection, so as not to spend money on carrying out a check on an aircraft that was being retired. The Fougas all had comparatively low total flight times so would be viable for return to service. There might be a special inspection due on the spars or such like but nothing beyond the abilities of the Austrians. 217 is fully intact, with no damage or major repair history. It could be made airworthy in a few months.
