People looked at me funny too when I walked around the Ramp in fairford wearing a red and white Kafyah(Shemagh) around my neck, but hey,no sunburn....
The Jordanians were impressed though...

Airshows are a great place to get fried. The airshow veterans are the ones who are covered up ''

Hey,Frank
Did you bring "The man in black" there beside you, or did the great musical legend pay his own way in? Was the polyester not too hot on you that day?
You are so right,Sealion. The best things to wear at any airshow are sunblock and ear defenders.

Hey Canner,

I wasn't too hot to be honest, I certainly wasn't uncomfortable.  Mind you, I did procure some sun block for the second day and I didn't look as much of an ass as I did above!  I'll be much more prepared for this year's show season.

I'm afraid I don't agree with you on the ear defenders part, there's nothing like going to an air show and getting absolutely deafened!

I can understand wearing wearing ear defenders on the ramp on a daily basis or while on the range but on the few days of the year I go to a show I love the noise.

Regards,

Frank.

Hi Frank
I remember walking the crowd line at one of the Don airshows whilst a fighter did it's turn overhead with it's afterburner on. The noise brought tears to my eyes, literally, and the reaction of the mothers and children along the line was worse, with lots of crying and howling, etc. A large wave of people set off away from the fence, at once, leading to a bit of a crowd-control incident. It soon passed but it was unpleasant, to say the least.Personally,I prefer the sound of a big radial or a Merlin, but that's just me.

Hi all
On UTV,a few weeks ago,one of the Casas was featured on a mid-evening programme about a guy fishing for six particular types of fish(shark, ray, etc). There were both internal and external shots of the aircraft. They whizzed about at lowlevel with the hero looking out of the bubble window for shoals and so on.

Hi,Sealion
I was at Farnborough a few years back and an SU-27 or 30 went up(after a tiny ground roll) and ripped the place apart. The Rafale and F18 were equally vocal.I once saw and heard a MiG-21, in Syria, execute a perfect rolling turn, directly overhead, sun flashing off it's natural metal skin.It could be heard long after it had gone from view.

Hi all
A "My noise is bigger than yours" contest!? Are we that bored? I was at Cork Airport, airside, at the end of the runway, when the last BA Trident 3 took off.It was earthshaking, smoky and literally made you tremble as it roared off. That was before any of those sissy noise attenuators became a requirement.
