Should the Air Corps participate in UN Missions?

ireland sent troop in the most important UN missions , in lebanon for example ;
I don't kown if G W BUSH  ask to ireland to send troop in irak , or if ireland wait a UN resolution for this .
may be IAC sent a DOLPHIN in irak with troop.

Should participation in UN or ERRF missions be left to our Army colleagues only? Considering what participation has done to their improved equipment in recent years surely participation by our Corps on these missions would truely benefit result in huge developments?

Just a reminder the UN could do with a complete make over, it needs stronger leaders and become more of an agressive force.  Yes it is a peace keeping force, but it needs to be better orgainized to handle bigger situations that come their direction.  This debate can go so many ways and it also depends where you are sitting at this present time.

The bottom line is the Irish Defence Forces kicked ass down in the Leb. it seems like they ran the show and not the UN. I can tell one thing is that the UN Generals at times ignored Irish Soldiers getting shot at, it is also known that American forces that went on UN deployments looked out for the Irish Defence Forces.  I know this for a fact!!!!!! I think the UN should be buying Ireland everything they need due the Defence Forces stellar performances all over the globe!!!!!! '>

Yes, yes emphatically yes, there is a definite role for the air corps operating medium lift helicopters and fixed wing tactical transports in the C-295/C-27J or C-130J classes in suppot of UN and EU missions.
If these items were in place there would also be a potential opportunity for the air corps to operate armed helicopters such as the Tiger or AH-1W, but the purchase of combat aircraft would be contingent on the air corps gaining these more basic capabilities first and engendering higher expectations of the forces' capability.

Fair play to FF, once agains really up on his stuff.  Air Corps members have taken part in UN missions for years.  Albeit as part of the infantry batts.  They've been to Lebanon, Kosovo and sure didn't John O'Brien himself take charge of all UN flying missions in Somalia as head of operations. '>

The UN is on the verge of bankruptcy largely to one particular member having withheld its membership fees for the last decade.
Apart from EU fishery protection funding (which is by the way done on a batch basis so Portugal is getting subsidies on a batch of 14 EH101s of which two are for MP work) we have to pay for these things ourselves, if the public expect someone else to pay for their defence, why shouldnt they accept that another country defends us?
