It will certainly make ordering spares easier '<img'>
I wonder how this bodes for the McAlpine Techie residing at Baldonnel hardly makes sense to have two seperate maintenance teams working on 4 helicopters of the same type....or does it?

Garda Helis are Turbomeca engines, with Mc Alpine Fit, Air Corps new EC 135s are Pratt & Whitney Eurocopter build. Different aircraft, similar name.

Civvies can't fly government aircraft. There would have to be a change in legislation before McAlpine could fly them.

I saw on tv last night (News report about terrorist trial) that the Spanish Police were using a heli (Bo105?) which the reporter stated " is fitted with a jamming system to stop remote controlled bombs going off ".

It made me wonder does the current GASU EC135 have such a device ?

If not, the new GASU EC135 (and/or new AC heli) should be fitted with such!

I see the new aircraft will be a T2,while the original is a T1.
You are saying now the 2 new air Corps aircraft are P2. WHat possible logic is there to this? 4 aircraft, 3 engine types?

The current Garda EC135 was upgraded last year to T2 standard, meaning the new helicopter would be identical to it.

Just as a matter of intrest, the new PT-6 powered EC-135's for the Aircorps will give us 3 aircraft(King Air,PC-9 being the other 2) powered by the same engine, albeit different variants. This will make it much handier maintenance wise. Well when I say maintenance I mean stripping down the modules of the engine etc,as most heavy gas turbine maintenance is farmed out to companies in the UK and Europe.

The Pratt powered EC-135 uses the PW206 not the PT-6.
