Hi Frank, are you planning to visit RIAT this year? I haven't heard anything from this end about a youth day on the Friday like last year, but it's early days yet!

Hi John,

I am indeed going to Fairford again this year. Heard that nothing is happening on Friday so I'm only going from Friday afternoon to Monday evening.

I'll have some cool new camera gear with me so I hope to improve on the pictures I took last year, I'll have been at a few air shows prior to RIAT so I'll have the camera fine tuned by then.

Will you be going even if there is no youth day or similar event?

Hey Frank, im going this year again. Most of the RAF stuff will be arriving on the friday morning and the rest of the display aircraft will be doing their practice displays as usual weather premitting. It was a pitty the red arrows and the patrouille de france didnt get the chance to do the joint flyby due to the rain on friday but there might be something good on the friday this year...you never know. Cant wait for the summer.  '>

ps. there is no youth day this year, it has been cancelled, hence most of the RAF arriving on friday.

Last time I was in fairford(1994) friday was "fly in" day,with visiting aircraft arriving at 15 minute intervals. The campsite accross the road was as good a viewpoint as any,and you get good shots of many aircraft you may later miss due to the pure size of the flightline.

Back then the Former WarPac aircraft such as the Mig 19 and Mig 21s were the real stars,with their painfully loud engines.

We were lucky back in 1993 to Have a Tupelov Bear and a B52 on the same ramp. The following year we had a B1B and a Blackjack.(I think).

The RAF fly ins are no longer interesting,with the withdrawal of the Buccaneer,Canberra,Victor,Phantom,Jaguar etc.

Hi Frank, hope you have a good weekend! I'm on shift at work for the RIAT weekend this year and as has been said there's no youth day, I was told it's because British Aerospace aren't supporting it this year. If it had been on I could have got time off to bring some Air Cadets but I can't justify it on my own!
Pity, as I'd like to have seen the end of the Jaguars!
Hopefully we'll be able to catch up again in the future.

The Friday should be fairly busy as its usually reserved for some sort of kids/charity event but I believe thats not on this year and its full steam ahead for arriving a/c.
I hope that todays events in London dont effect the event as thats just the sort of publicity those B@#tards are looking for. May those who died RIP.

CASA more than likely will not be going to Fairford due to added operational requirements as a result of maintenance on other a/c!!!!
This is not official, but I did hear a lot of moaning and cursing going on among the lads who were(are??) due to go.

Just been confirmed that the CASA is definitly "NOT" going to Fairford !!!

No PC-9's for fairford either!!!!! So no Aircorps for fairford!!!!
(CASA was acting as transport for PC-9 ground crew as well as being a show a/c. And there are no other available a/c to bring them, DOH!!)
