S-61 moved already?!
« on: May 22, 2003, 05:29:04 pm »
Hi Lude,

The Air Corps S61 will work up over the summer from it's base in Sligo and it will eventually replace the Dauphin sometime later in the year.

Regards,

Frank.

Hey guys,
I've just spotted a nice big red and white S-61 with its tail sticking out of the hangar here at carrickfinn airport,I was wondering if it was the 'new' aircorps one because I wouldn't mind going over to take a good look at it if it was!
It's definetely an S-61,red and white colour scheme, can't see any markings though. The one that is usually based here is dark blue and white in colour, thats what got me thinking, anyway as usual your wisdom is much appreciated!

The s 61 project running from sligo is behind on time, there are alot of dates going around as to when the base will go operational, and i predict some more delays shortly......id say they will be lucky to be up and running by August"IF they are lucky",

For your pondering! K '<img'>

Could it have been the coast guard?

The IAC s-61 seems to be on training flights every morning or at least every second morning. It may have been at Carrickfin for the day.

Theres also loads of the IAC fixed wings in and out every morning the dauphin is here a good bit now aswell.

are you talking about Sligo airport alan?
The hangar is closed now so I can't see into it anymore, but it was definetely very like the IAC S-61,I thought it was a bit of a coincidence. The coast guard S-61 has never been to carrickfinn, not to my knowledge anyway, the only other sea kings you would ever see up here apart from the one stationed here now were the royal navy ones, very seldom though.

The S-61N at Carrickfinn is EI CZN (red and white). It belongs to CHC Ireland Ltd and is on contract there with some oil company.

Good lad VMAX,you've cleared that up for me anyway. I didn't see it at all today, but it did look like the aircorp one from the back(saying that of course they all have the same shaggin colours!).
Back to boredom anyway, the aircorps one will be up soon hopefully,I might get a look at it then!
