I saw a French AF listing also which said that either a Mirage 2000 or Mirage F.1 would attend - any update on this?

Hi SF,

The Mirage was listed as being a static aircraft only and unfortunately seeing as the nearest runway capable of taking the aircraft was 50 miles away from the air show it was pointless sending the aircraft.

Fouga,

I realy think it's time you'll visit an airshow in the Netherlands.
The line up you mentioned is OK but to call it brilliant '<img'>

We had over 200 aircraft on our airshow last weekend !!!!

Point 1. Salthill is totall voluntary and they dont recieve any payment for what they do.

Point 2. Its one of the few FREE airshows left in Europe, again this means the Organisers make no money.

Point 3. It is Civil run and takes place at a Seaside Location not an Air Base.

Point 4. There is little if no room for a Static Display ( Helo's Only and at max 3-4 Helo's ).

Point 5. It is a Brilliant line up considering it takes place over the sea and not at a Base and they dont charge so id consider it well worth going to as its FREE and all the Organisers want to do is put on a show and make the Public smile!

Fouga,

1) so is the most of our Open Dagen, the staff is not getting paid either.

2) It's free as well

3) Think of Niederrhein airshow, civil as well but about 25 military planes there .
Hechtel-Sanicole airshow in Belgium is on a grass strip where the jets take of from Kleine Brogel AFB.
On a regular year they got about 100 jets / helicopters for the show.
Most of them military !!!
This show in purely on volanteerly base !!!

4) What's the excuse, replace it

5) see all of the above !!

Fouga,

I don't want to p**S you off or something but there are more, and better , airshows around.
I know they're rare in Ireland but e.g. the UK have some good ones to visit.
It's cheap to go around these ( just ask Frank )

they can only have so many helo's cuz the park at salthill is tiny unless you would like me to go reclaim some land from the sea? I know there are better ones around but the fact is its the best in Ireland.

Right Guys,

Before we have an international incident, the Salthill Air Show and the RNLAF Open Dagen are pretty much two different types of air shows.

For starters, the RNLAF Open Dagen is basically a government sponsored (Dutch MOD) event while the Salthill Air Show is a part private / part publicly funded event that has to fight for funding every year.

The Netherlands has a huge air force and is in NATO.

Salthill is a seaside event with no runway, the Open Dagen is at an air base with huge ramps &  long runways.

The pool of aircraft available to the Salthill Air Show is pretty limited.

Example: The Dutch Air Power demo at the Open Dagen had more aircraft in the sky at one time than the Air Corps has in it's entire fleet.

The Salthill Air Show is held in very high regard, as is the Open Dagen, the support from the RAF and the RNLAF at this year's Salthill show is great, but apart from the aircraft and the actual flying displays they are two completely different air shows.

I could go on (I hope I made some sense above) but please stop the "my air show is better than your air show" chat.

Regards,

Frank.
