Which flight simulator software to get?
« on: August 14, 2005, 07:32:08 pm »
Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of investing in flight simulator software and I wonder can any of you guys point me in the right direction...

My criteria are as follows:

1)  I'd like to be able to shoot guns & drop bombs (no fun unless you can blow something up)

2)  I'd like to be able to use aircraft painted in Air Corps colours

3)  No airliners please

Can anyone suggest a platform based on the above criteria?

Thanks in advance,

Frank.

The IL-2 Sturmovik line would be an excellent purchase. It involves the original IL-2 and the Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters add-ons which are also seperate games.

Lock-on is good if your computer can handle it.
FS2004 is good too, you can get detailed airports, locations etc for Ireland from www.ifsd.ie. And as others have said, you can fly fougas, marchettis, dauphins, EC135s, learjets etc etc.No bombs though.

Frank, I've gotta go with IL2 and the expansions. The aircraft really do behave differently if you choose the realistic settings, and there is nothing like the fear that it gives you when you realise that you are facing FW190s. Much more up close and personal than today's digital battlefield drop bombs from 15000 ft sims. Falcon looks pretty, but isn't as raw an experience. IL2 looks as pretty if you can handle it. Speaking of which, this isn't going to slow the board down, is it?...JOKING! Enjoy whatever it is you get.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.  I've been told to get Combat Flight Simulator by a friend who has it, I'm going to give it a try and see how I get on, I'll start small and work my way up I think.

FS2002 / 2004 looks ok too, no guns but lots of Air Corps aircraft, I might have to give that a try too, live out my failed dreams through my computer!!!

Regards,

Frank.
