Flying Foxes? sounds snappy could the FF also be because of the Oglaigh Na hEireann crest on our Berets "FF" ?

Flying Foxes '<img'> .......why ?

I reckon 'Silver Swallows' should be retained - surely other air forces have changed aircraft/aircraft colours(?) and still retained their original team name ?

This name probably was conjured up by someone with a scanner as the team callsign is "Fox Section" from the old Fouga callsign "Foxtrot 219, foxtrot 220 etc". When there is more than one a/c of a type in formation they become a section.
In saying that , a single PC-9 becomes Irish 261..etc like a MATS flight aircraft so as not to get mixed up with certain other callsigns in use by aircorps piloted aircraft but I did hear PAPA section on the radio the other day refering to a pair of pc-9's so I dont think anything is in stone yet!!
I think we should bury "Fox Section" as it meant a lot to some of us and and they'll never be the Swallows!!! (ooohh bitter!!LOL)

You're dead right GTTC, Manston museum near where I live have dedicated people who give up an evening a week to keep the aircraft and exhibits looking good, I think it's more of a social gathering as well. Surely there's enough exers around who could do a little bit then down to the NCOs mess for a pint?
As you say you don't need to be a qualified person to put some air in the tyres, even FF could probably do that!
Unless they only want genuine 1940s air for the Ansons tyres?

if you mention silver swallows overhere, people know it's an Irish team. No-one knows flying foxes. I think it's a bad thing to change the name.

Have the AC considered running a competition (in schools?) to get a name for the display team ?

Could be done in conjunction with the RTE Guide (for example), with the winner getting a tour of Baldonnel and a flight in the rear seat of a PC-9.

Would generate great publicity for them !

Blue Impulse? Sounds like a deodorant not an aerobatic display team! Mind you maybe it lost something in the Japanese translation!
