Hi Folks

I know the international Air Corps callsign is "Irish", but listening in on the atc frequencies it seems that, at least within Ireland (or maybe just on VFR flights) the aircraft use a "type identifier" "reg number" callsign, like

Casa - Charlie 253

Dauphin - Delta Hotel 244

Do all the aircraft use similar callsigns, if so, what identifiers do the all the other AC use?

Also, which AC are still in active use? 2 Dauphins and the warriors seem to be 'retired', which registrations are still flying?

The alouettes used to be (I don't know if they still are) Alpha and the Fougas were Foxtrot, -get the link? It's the first letter of the aircraft name!
At British airways we identify whatever aircraft we're working on by the tail letters (registration), usually just the last two letters. It gets kinda interesting when you work with one of the Indian lads as their accent is ripe for a bit of pi55 taking, eg: " Are you working on Vhisky Wictor?" Heh! Heh! Or " Why don't you get the superWisor some budViser for Christmas?"

Yes the alouettes still use Alpha212 etc what are the Cessna's and Gazelle callsigns?

Reims Rockets use "Romeo"followed by aircraft number. So "Golf" is probably used for the Gazelle."Sierra" for the squirrel, "Echo" for the 135.

thanks for the replies, so going on the suggestions to date can someone confirm or correct the following

Learjet - "Lima 258"

Gulfstream - "Golf 251" or "Golf Serria 251"

Gazelle - "Golf 241" or "Golf Hotel 241"

Defender - "Delta 254" or "Bravo November 254" or .....

Beech Kingair 200 - "Bravo 240" or "Kilo 240"

PC-9 - "Papa 260" or "Papa Charlie 260"

While I'm at it, which 2 Dauphin's are stored?

Hi there
All MATS flights or other AC aircraft abroad are referred to as "Irish---" and nothing else. The Beech is referred to as "Kilo 240" or just plain old "Two-Forty" when doing local work.Double-barrelled callsigns are rarely, if ever used simply because it takes too long and can lead to confusion.All training flights get the "tango" added,ie; Whiskey Tango 225. If you want to to get a clearer picture, get a transciever and listen to them and you can always track them as they change from one ATC agency to another.

I have added comments as you will see below.  Also, all types seem to use the "Irish" form of callsign when flying outside the country.

Learjet - "Lima 258"  

I have only ever heard Irish 258"  (three-letter code is "IRL"



Gulfstream - "Golf 251" or "Golf Serria 251"  

I have only ever heard "Irish 251"


Gazelle - "Golf 241" or "Golf Hotel 241"

The former is correct.



Defender - "Delta 254" or "Bravo November 254" or .....  

The fixed callsign is Papa 254 (for Pilatus-Britten Norman)


Beech Kingair 200 - "Bravo 240" or "Kilo 240"  

K240 used in the past but have only heard IRL240 in recent times.


PC-9 - "Papa 260" or "Papa Charlie 260"  

I have only heard IRL260 etc. - "Fox Section" for a formation.

SF260        Whiskey  eg W231
PC9M         Irish  eg IRL260
Kingair        Kilo  eg K240
Defender     Papa  eg P254
Casa          Charlie  eg C252
Lear45        Irish eg IRL258
G IV           Irish  eg IRL251

Allouette     Alpha  eg A211
Gazelle        Golf  eg G241
Dauphin      Delta Hotel eg DH246

Sections use 'Irish', 'Fox', 'Whiskey', 'Alpha', 'Red', 'Blue' or 'Rainbow' folled by "Section".  eg FoxSection / RedSection

Any international Flight uses IRL folled by tail number

Cuold someone provide an updated callsign list for the current Aer Corps fleet? Do those aircraft that are listed above, which are currently still in service, have the same callsign and what do the IAC's new EC135's use?

The new EC135s use "Echo", i.e. the same as already used by the Garda machine.
