This nose section is all that survives of VX185, which made a record-breaking double crossing of the Atlantic on 26 August 1952. It was flown from RAF Aldergrove to Gander and the return flight took 10 hours and 3 minutes.

Wearing the dark green camouflage unique to the RAF Germany Lightnings in the 1970s. The Lightning F.2A was a major upgrade of the early F.2 model to approximately F.6 standard.
